Portraits of a young man as an actor
Gerush, talking about physical theatre, somatics, impulse, and sleeping on stage. Gerush and I first met at the Learning Societies Unconference in Orissa. One of those, who after finishing education, decided to take off on a journey without any predefined destination. He, a few more people, and I ended up on a short backpack trip soon after. The young man came with a never-ending streak of questions, little street sense, and adolescent enthusiasm. A total package of bugginess and a very warm heart. Our paths crossed once again at Kabir yatra a year later. We got enough time for him to share his stories with Kabir all around. Last week I got a call from him where he shared his interesting art project bringing traditional and contemporary art forms together diluting the disciplines. I was intrigued and he offered to come over and talk about it in detail.
Here was the galavanting Gerush, sharing about how deeply he managed to engage with various art forms ranging from Kalari, CI, Tibetan folk, New Theater, and Kangra Painting. The man was looking at my drawings when he started finding serendipitous parallels with Somatics and his experiments with theatre. I saw him turn into animation with his hands flowing all over the place. I picked the camera and shot these pictures while he continued to look past the lens and speak his heart with his signature childlike abundance.
